nah if all goes well then im gunna be getting an apprenticeship/work placement somewhere in the uk so i need to start saving up for driving lessons and all that crap, plus i dont really have enough energy to do dh and with aston going down the shitter im not gunna have anywhere to ride..

Psh, Aston would be fine for you it's not like you're used to it. Just get a DH bike, us lot seem to manage.
